Nightfighter Corsair

Description

This is the F4U-5NL, an all weather nightfighter version of the F4U Corsair line. The -5 version was the first post World War II version of the fighter and the first all weather version as well. Fitted with an AN/APS-6 radar in a pod on her starboard wing, she was used as a night intruder during the Korean War.

This model specifically represents the aircarft of Capt. J. Folmar of VMA-312, who in 1952 during the Korean War engaged and shot down a MiG-15 jet fighter. Not only that, but he became the only fighter ace flying only a piston engined fighter during that war.

Cans of whoop ass; cannons, rockets, bombs, even the prop...during WWII, a Corsair pilot chopped the tail off a Japanese bomber using his Corsair's prop like a 13 foot circular saw:

I've actually seen one of these a/c in person.  It's an impressive looking fighter.
