Mount Suribachi

In 1945, the U.S. Marines stormed Mount Suribachi during the campaign to take the island of Iwo Jima. During the battle for the volanic island, an iconic photograph was taken of 5 Marines; Ira Hayes, Mike Strank, Rene Gagnon, Harlon Block, Franklin Sousley, and U.S. Navy corpsman John Bradley as they raised the U.S. flag above the mountain.

This is the very flag they raised on that day, February 23rd, 1945.
